Recent increases in tourism and immigration have contributed to a rise in international travellers, that in turn has resulted in the expansion of almost-forgotten or emerging diseases. The training and expertise required to face these diseases has become indispensable.

Today, there is greater demand for solving problems related to potential disease exposure and other situations posing risks to travellers. These situations require the creation and implementation of preventive activities including: general advice for international travellers, implementation of antimalarial and other prophylaxis, and vaccine administration when necessary.
